Hollywood's Famous Poets Society
Although we've received numerous complaints about Noble House and Poetry.com (now a failed enterprise) over the years, we've heard little about the "Famous Poets Society."
In May 2009 we submitted a public domain poem to Famous Poets to see what the process might be. After clicking the "submit" button, we were offered this:
Thank you Utmost, for your poem submission. It will be professionally acknowledged within a couple of weeks. If you would like to preserve your poem on a walnut-finished plaque, this is the time to take advantage of our Special Offer. Click the "Yes" button below and we'll send you a proof sheet. You can make sure your poem is correct, before we make your plaque. Retail $38, plus $7 shipping and handling. Yours now for $29 total. We pay shipping and handling. Full money-back guarantee if you don't absolutely love it! |
Famous Poets claims, on one of its pages, that it has awarded $289,000 in prizes. In fact, you can order a book of previous winning poems. According to Famous Poets, "What a treat, dear reader, is in store for you."
One of these "treats," apparently, is this winner of $15,000. We'll leave it to you, "dear reader," to judge the quality of the poem.
Famous Poets "noms de plum"
If you've read our information about Noble House, you'll know that Poetry.com did business under a myriad of various names.
The Famous Poet Society is no different. Some of the other names they use (or have used) are:

Famous Poets Publishing
In looking over various activities of Famous Poets, we also examined their "self publishing" offers. We have not seen what sort of books Famous Poets produces, but there are so many specifications missing from their order form that it would be almost impossible for a poet to guess what might be received.
For example, nowhere does it indicate that your finished book will have a color cover.
We'll be sure to keep you up-to-date in the future with our "Famous Poets adventures."
If you have personal experience with Famous Poets, we invite you to contact us.
