They Crawl Toward My Feet
I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands. Isaiah 49:16
For two thousand years, they have crawled toward my feet.
Through the dust that forms them, they struggle over boulders they place
in their own ways, detour around obstacles they create,
look for a path they will rarely see, and crawl.
For two thousand years, they crawl through my words,
raise isolated phrases to holy status, tear them apart,
detach each word, pierce plain meaning for hidden,
interpret a thousand different ways,
scrutinize authenticity, never really hear,
and still they crawl.
Behold!
I am lifted up before you.
I wait,
pray you will look up.
Look upon my face,
see your name upon my palm,
rise from your knees,
run the short distance,
embrace me.
And feel my love pulsate through you.
