Marianne Jones

About this Christian Poet:
Marianne Jones of Thunder Bay, Ontarios is Utmost's third International Christian Poet Laureate, serving in 2010 and 2011.

The Jar

You split my heart open
that was calm and contained as alabaster,
spilled its contents on the ground.
I did not understand such waste, such extravagance
nor the fragrance of myrrh and blood that lingered at the killing scene.
Of what use to You were the broken pieces?
Of what value the tears that soaked the ground?
Now I understand enough to ask:
of what use is a heart sealed, unbroken?
