Emily Sadlier
Honorable Mention 2008 Utmost Christian Poetry Contest: $50
About this Christian Poet:
Emily Sadlier lives in Calgary, Alberta. She graduated in 2007 from Redeemer University with a degree in Humanities and Art History.
About this Poem:
This poem looks to explore some of my own struggles with art and thinking. Creativity, although child-like and innate within us, can become an innocent yet ominous way of forgetting our original Creator. It is so tempting to want to alter the world around us and then take credit for it. History and contemporary life seem to be haunted by these themes.
Creative fall
I took your painting
Your masterpiece
I started to draw stick figures on top of your magnificent work
It made me laugh
I started to change things slightly with Black crayon
Inspiration caught me
I became proud of what I had done
I signed my name to the bottom
And then I crossed out God
