Nika Cruce

Honorable Mention 2007 Christian Publishers Poetry Prize $20

Nika Lynn Cruce lives in the beautiful Ozarks in Harrison, Arkansas just south of Branson, Missouri. Having studied screenplay writing, creative writing and art, as well as being involved in programs for the underprivileged, a combination of interests is reflected in her poetry.  Most of her works are related to life, reaching out to those in need of healing words.  She is currently in the process of compiling her poetry and art for publication.

About this poem: At 53, I became the last living member of my original family. Though the  world still went on all around me, my personal world had to stop…long enough to reassess and reprioritize. "Tomorrow" was written with the realization of how fragile and temporary our lives are. Each day is a gift for which we should be grateful. We tend to get caught up in the hectic rush of life, taking for granted our days and how we use the time God has given us. I praise God, for someday tomorrow  will be forever.

Tomorrow

Many times we live our lives
just thinking of today,
the earthy toils and troubles
we face along the way.

We fill our lives with worry
regrets of yesterday,
postponing prayers and praises
until another day.

With thoughts of good intentions,
another day is done.
Neglecting our salvation,
too soon tomorrow's gone.

I give it all to you, Lord,
your blessings to acclaim.
Give me one more tomorrow
just to praise your name.

I thank you for your mercy.
I praise you for your grace
and for the cross of Calv'ry
you suffered in my place.

I owe my life to you, Lord,
with all my soul proclaim,
and thank you for tomorrow
just to praise your name.
