About this Christian Poet:
Martha Eitzen is a poet from Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
Through the windows where I write, I look out over the snow-covered Rocky Mountains. From this beauty, I am driven to expression through the arts. My creativity has morphed from dress design to calligraphy, then to interior design and now writing. I aspire to become a writer that speaks "words of life," so that readers seek God more than before—in new and creative ways. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue" as it says in Proverbs.
It was during the planning stages of a Christian women's retreat that I was compelled to write, "I Walked in the Garden of God." The words symbolize the "perfect moments" we experience on earth that reveal glimpses of the paradise we will one day encounter in eternity.
I Walked in the Garden of God
I walked in the Garden of God and sat beneath the Tree of Life
And it was like diving into a pool of crystalline, pure spring water
Cool, refreshing, exhilarating
Sliding, gliding in and out of filtered sunrays
Gazing at another world,
Experiencing the lightness of being
Until the mirrored surface kissed my face…
And I received His Love.
I sat beneath the Tree of Life
And it was like riding the ultimate wave
Mighty, rushing, thrilling,
Sighting the approaching swell, waiting to feel the rolling force
Racing for the crest, rocketing toward shore
Gloriously sailing with the power
Until the sand once again settled beneath my feet…
And I received His Love.
I sat beneath the Tree of Life
And it was like dancing the perfect dance with the ideal partner
Harmony, flowing with grace, completely in sync
Gliding intuitively,
Never knowing the next step until it happens
Poignantly expressing a seamless union
Until the beautiful music played its final note…
And I received His Love.
I sat beneath the Tree of Life
And it was like restoring a love desperately believed was lost
Relief, utter joy, complete surprise
Starting over with a renewed passion, seeing with new eyes
Grasping what it means, “never take it for granted”
Vowing to a committed love no matter what the cost
Until death do us part...
And I received His Love.
I sat beneath the Tree of Life
And it was like the story of a young woman suffering a pain-filled death
Hopeless, heart-wrenching, utterly despairing
Losing youth and beauty to an insatiable enemy
But hearing of a man willing to save her life by losing His
Confounded by a stranger’s sacrifice, experiencing grace in all its wonder
Until gratefulness turned to weeping adoration.
I walked in the Garden of God and sat beneath the Tree of Life
There is no place on earth that nears its rare and glorious beauty...
And I received His Love.
